The Caelo Trio - Traditional Celtic and International Folk music with a unique and original voice. Featuring Max Charmichael, Octave mandolin and Flute, Aldo Lavaggi, Fiddle and Mandolin. Mark Murphy, Upright Bass,

Dust Bowl Faeries - A faerie-tale fusion of dark cabaret, gothic polka and post-punk music, Dust Bowl Faeries are a dark-carnival band from the New York Hudson Valley. The band's eclectic repertoire of songs draw inspiration from circus songs, murder ballads and Eastern European folk music.

Community Drum Circle and Dance - Elena Mosley, Kuumba Dance & Drum Academy

FIRST HALF

  • Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman #1 - Written by Joan Tower in 1987, Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman is one of 6 Fanfares that are tributes to women who take risks and are adventurous.  It is dedicated to conductor Marin Alsop – the first woman to serve as the conductor of a major orchestra in the U.S.  (The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra).

  • “La Conga del Fuego Nuevo” - Arturo Marquez, with dancers Anna Mayta, director of Mayta Fusion Dance, Donna Barrett, and Elena Mosely of Operation Unite inspiring the Audience to join the Conga Line!

  • “The Wedding” - composed and performed by Grammy-award-winning clarinetist, Kinan Azmeh. Born and raised in Syria, Kinan Azmeh is an advocate for new music.  He is a graduate of Julliard and the Damascus High Institute of Music.  His first opera “Songs for Days to Come” which is sung in Arabic, was recently premiered in Germany (June 2022).  Azmeh has just been appointed to the National Council for the Arts by the nomination of President Biden.  We are lucky to hear his brilliant work during this concert.  Here is a teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS4SHqqhqVc&t=15s

  • “El Choclo (The Corncob)” - tango by A. Villoldo, arr. F. Mocata, with dancers Sidney “Dr. Dance” Grant and Dr. Ninah Beliavsky, PhD

  • “Expanded Flow” by Eric Fraser - A multi-cultural work including African, Indian, Western music and Hip Hop. Created for this performance by Eric Fraser and Adriana Tampasis, “Expanded Flow” intertwines ways of seeing and feeling from a deeply baked cross-cultural musical lens. Instrumentation: Kora, Mbira, Tabla, Sitar, Bansuri, Western Orchestra. Conducted by David Banoczi-Ruof, HFO Assistant Conductor

  • Selections from “The Show Must Go On” – A new musical by Edgar Acevedo based on the children’s book by Emily Arnold McCully. Music is by Richard Stein and Andrew Stein with lyrics by Edgar Acevedo. Performing are members of Columbia County Youth Theater (CCYT) directed by Andrew Stein.

  • The Wizard of Tap – Tony Kieraldo, arranger and pianist, with Demi Remick, Tap Dancer.  A tap teacher at the Broadway Dance Center, Remick has performed all over the world, including the Sydney Opera House and Radio City Music Hall.  She is an alumnus of the Tap Program at Jacob’s Pillow, the S.F.   • NKAMPA Call & Response led by Diata Diata International Folkloric Theater performers Pamela Badila, Ngounga Badila, Ntangou Badila, Milandou Badila, Ntchota Badila, Nkoula Badila, and Mounanou Badila sharing this message: “We are global citizens. As such, we are bound to disagree. However: when the dialogue enjoys an ambience of reciprocity, there is encouragement for peaceful outcomes.”

  • Ukrainian “Cheremshyna (Spring’s Song)” sung by Vira Slywotzky, contralto, arr. Tony Kieraldo

  • “Fiddle-Faddle” by Leroy Anderson -with student participants in “Take a Seat…in the Orchestra” mentoring program with student participants in “Take a Seat…in the Orchestra” mentoring program performing a fiddling introduction and joining their mentors in Fiddle-Faddle..

  • “Eem Anoush Davigh (My Sweet Harp)” - Armenian influenced jazz improvisation from Sayat-Nova: Songs Of My Ancestors by Armen Donelian, arr. Robert Sadin, with Armen Donelian, piano, Aron Caceres, bass, David Jimenez, drums.

  • “The Gods Love Nubia” from Broadway show “Aida” - Music by Elton John, sung by the Hudson Community Choir, in collaboration with Beautiful Racket., with soloists Sharece Johnson and Anneice Cousin, conducted by Andrew Stein.

  • “Servicemen on Parade” – A medley of marches, arr. Richard Hayman

Hudson Festival Orchestra (HFO), a professional orchestra conducted by Founder/Artistic Director, Gwen Gould, will feature area musicians and special guest artists. Student musicians will perform with the orchestra, as part of HFO’s “Take a Seat…in the Orchestra” mentoring program.

We encourage you to bring a picnic to enjoy on the lawn!

HFO seeks to promote Henry Hudson Riverfront Park as a community resource that contributes to a vibrant and inclusive Hudson. The concert will be performed under a large tent on the lawn
overlooking the river and mountains, a short walk from town.
